Predator: Fire and Stone #2 Review

Can Galgo work alongside the Predator? Read on to find out.

The official description from Dark Horse:

THE GOOD, THE BAD, AND THE UGLY MOTHER%*@$#!

After the mayhem and terror of Weyland-Yutani’s disastrous mission to the site of the Prometheus, Galgo’s troubles continue when his ship is shanghaied by a Predator stowaway! Its obsession with a mysterious, deadly quarry sends them to the last place in the universe Galgo’d like to revisit—the Xeno-infested LV-223!

Predator Fire and Stone #2 previewFire and Stone continues to astonish, with the events of this issue only going to resonate the epiphany that I had whilst reading Prometheus: Fire and Stone #3, regarding the timeline of the series. Despite the ultra quick start being a little underwhelming, the events of this issue are generally exciting, with the teaming of Galgo and a Predator being utterly astonishing.

Joshua Williamson utilises the Predator in the most creative way that I’ve seen to date. Though it’s been established time and time again that Predators have worked with humans to achieve their goals, I don’t think there has been one that has used a human as craftily as the one in Fire and Stone has. Williamson also displays the Predator’s natural instincts brilliantly, with the hunter instincts being shown like never before.

When a comic starts with little narration, or dialogue, it’s up to the artwork to keep readers interested. Chris Mooneyham certainly does this, with the Five Ghosts artist giving a grim tone to this world. The artist also manages to resonate the landscape that Juan Ferreyra introduced in Prometheus: Fire and Stone, whilst also delivering his own unique flair. He also captures the energy that comes with the Predator character, and along with Dan Brown‘s colours it gives a deep vibrancy to Williamson’s script.

Predator: Fire and Stone #2 is a fun comic, as though it gets off to a rather questionable start, the actions of the Predator and Galog prove to be utterly entertaining. Highly recommended.
