Nailbiter #8 Review

Will this series finally move the story forward? Read on to find out.

The official description from Image:

“BEES!” Since the beginning, the Nailbiter’s home town has been plagued with bees. Are they responsible for creating the serial killers?

Nailbiter08-Page1-e748aBrian Michael Bendis‘ appearance in the last issue may have been novel, but I have to admit it wasn’t really necessary. Thankfully the series gets back on track, as Finch continues to shadow Carroll’s investigation. This leads him to a bee farm, with the inhabitant being more than unwelcoming. It is however the person in his basement that proves most enticing, having a creepy vibe that more than suits this horror tale.

Joshua Williamson has done an amazing job of capturing the horror genre within this series, creating something both creepy and surreal. It is however the writers ability to flesh out a compelling overarc that really allows these elements to shine, with the mystery and drama being enticing as ever. Williamson also shines light on prior sequences and comments, with the world of Nailbiter growing bigger with each passing issue.

Mike Henderson has yet to drop a beat when it comes to fashioning sensational visuals, with his artwork being as mesmerizing as ever. Framing each sequence in an intense manner, the artist really allows for an engaging flow to this tale, with the drama oozing out of each page. The drama and suspense is also reflected in the character expressions, with the tension throughout being nailbitingly awesome. Adam Guzowski‘s colours also continue to compliment the stunning work of Henderson, with the texture and tone being as eye catching as ever.

Nailbiter gets back on track with this issue, as though the addition of Brian Michael Bendis during the last issue was a clever idea, ultimately it hindered the story that Williamson was building. This changes here, with an whole new arc kicking off. Highly recommended.
