The Delinquents #3 Review

Will The Delinquents get any closer to finding the hobo treasure? Read on to find out.

The official description from Valiant:

GET DELINQUENT!

As the road trip from hell enters its penultimate pit stop, our curious cuatro must make a choice that will FOREVER CHANGE THE WORLD…or at least change the course of HOBO HISTORY as we know it! With only a mysterious ass-map (yes, we said ass-map!) to guide them, Archer and Armstrong and Quantum and Woody are about out to discover the HOLE of America…uncover the secrets of their mysterious benefactor…and take down corporate America while they’re at it! It’s independent comics, we can do whatever we want, baby!

DELINQ_003_VARIANT_EVANSThe Delinquents reaches its penultimate issue, and I have to say…. already. This exciting tale of humour, excitement and action feels as if it’s flown by, with the fact that there’s now only one issue remaining being hard to sink in. Reflecting the awesomeness of the first two issues, The Delinquents #3 is yet another quirky tale involving Valiant’s two most chaotic teams, with the mixture of the aforementioned qualities yet again bringing entertainment.

Both Quantum and Woody and Archer & Armstrong writers, James Asmus and Fred Van Lente write this fabulous tale, with Asmus handling the main script itself. Getting off to a very entertaining start, Asmus shows us yet again why these two teams are so widely loved, with the chemistry between them being pure magic. Another thing I loved about this script was the montage in the middle, as though it was probably the art layouts that made it so memorable, the writing itself was cleverly handled. Despite this there was some moments that were just too weird, feeling a little jarring and disjointed.

The artwork over this mini-series has been nothing short of phenomenal. Kano has previously impressed me with his stints on Swamp Thing and Gotham Central, but his art over the course of this series has really blew his previous work out of the water. Between his energetic layouts, and quirky character expressions there’s plenty to liven this already eccentric tale up, with the grim looking plant-imals showing just how gruesome he can be. Kano’s colours also give great tone to the issue, with the vibrant colours making the montage all the more impressive.

The Delinquents has only one issue left… I know, terrible new. On the positive side however, this penultimate issue gives us yet another entertaining series of events. Even if some of these events are a little too weird. Highly recommended.
