The Delinquents #2 Review

What will happen when Quantum and Woody and Archer & Armstrong get together? Read on to find out.

The official description from Valiant:

Well…that escalated quickly.

Quantum and Woody and Archer & Armstrong are riding the rails looking for the lost treasure of the Hobo King. Each armed with one half of a mysterious map, these two tandems have unwittingly been pitted against each other in a four-way free-for-all…but can either team get along long enough to achieve their mission? The world’s worst crossover joyride is about to enter uncharted territory!

DELINQ_002_VARIANT_CRYSTALWhat better way to bring Valiant’s two eccentric duo’s together than hobo treasure? Following on from a very story focused first issue, The Delinquents #2 starts to get into the real nitty gritty, with Armstrong & Archer and Quantum and Woody finally squaring off against each other. Between this hectic fight, and witty dialogue the developments of this issue really have me excited for this mini-series going forward.

Written by James Asmus with Fred Van Lente working alongside him on the plot, The Delinquents #2 proves to be an entertaining mix up of the two series, being just as hilarious as I anticipated. Asmus’ script has also engaged me more with the story in general, with the hobo language, and mystic treasure at the end of the tunnel proving more intriguing than I initially thought. Despite all this it is the humour that appealed to me most, with the little things like a farmer naming his cows after Game of Thrones characters, and the general banter between the two teams putting a huge smile on my face.

Former Swamp Thing artist Kano continues to produce the artwork for this mini-series with the extremely talented illustrator once again producing wonderful visuals. Having a very fun, and energetic feel throughout, Kano’s art really allows the emotion and sheer insanity of this story to ooze out. He also delivers a grippingly intense fight sequence with the detail in both the characters and scenery being phenomenal. I also loved how in a certain sequence where Armstrong is drinking, we get to see it pour out of his wounds, as though this doesn’t affect the art itself, I find these little pieces of humour to be a nice bonus.

The Delinquents #2 put the energy that a Archer & Armstrong/Quantum and Woody crossover needs, with the excitement and humour being through the roof. Highly recommended.
