Indestructible #8 Review

The official description from IDW:

“Best Impersonation of a Superhero” goes to…

Greg and Barry attend the People’s Choice Awards with all of Hollywood’s best, brightest, and most botox’d. But it’s the sadistic Tarr whose star shines the brightest, using the event to target as many high profile superheroes as possible.

Indestructible 8_Preview PageJeff Kline crafted a wholly fun universe that takes aim right at the heart of our modern disease: instant celebrity. For the average reader picking up this title can just be plain fun but if certain followers are so inclined they can appreciate the social commentary that’s  occurring right in front of their eyes. So kudos to the creative team for cementing that.

Ken Kristensen once again pens a script that’s ripe with personality. Indestructible is a franchise that lives off of that innate feature, as our hero and his sidekick come face to face with some harrowing odds during in the middle of their megaton lie. Through that we see the potential for these two, and it might just go beyond the simple slacker shenanigans they’re known for. The dialogue clicks  into place, as each character and pop culture reference fires off with ease. In short: the laughs and drama bring the saga of Greg Pincus into some noteworthy territory.

I absolutely enjoy the works of Giancarlo Caracuzzo. The talent has a real knack for delivering still frames that match the tempo of a fast moving comedy, and believe me that’s a rare skill to have. There were a few select instances where the final renditions needed a bit more time and finesse but these were few. And when the colors by Flavia Caracuzzo get added to the mix the entire visual display meshed perfectly with the written word creating an outstanding experience from beginning to end.

Indestructible #8 is imperfect fun that needs to be purchased by comedy and superhero genre fans. Darby Pop just has a winning flagship title, that might trip, but never falls flat on its face. Recommended.
