Grimm Fairy Tales presents Robyn Hood: Legend #5 Review

Will fanboys and fangirls walk away disappointed or pleased with this one? Read on to find out.

The official description from Zenescope:

The end is here. Robyn’s battle with the Sheriff of Nottingham is over. As the city of Nottingham is ravaged from rebellion, left to pick up the pieces and rebuild, our surviving heroes prepare for a new journey.

GFT Robyn Hood 5_Variant CoverIt’s hard for any story to truly wrap up its narrative path without feeling somewhat lacking. Thankfully this creative team understood the heart of their tale, as they offered up an outing with just enough finesse to successfully craft a pleasing conclusion. It may not be the happiest finale, but considering that the rest of the Grimm Fairy Tales line-up is steeped in an Age of Darkness, it’s at least befitting for our emerald archer.

There’s no doubt in my mind that Pat Shand owns the literary legacy of this interpretation, as he takes Robyn Hood through what could be her final bouts in Nottingham. The seasoned author gave us a script that speaks to deep themes that are instantly discernible for just about any audience member. The loss she now faces has taken a toll on her spirit, and we see that as she goes through the action at hand. And so by the time this release finishes it’s clear that the icon we once knew is now irrevocably changed.

Larry Watts handles the visual side of this equation, and once again the illustrative maestro offers a compelling set of pages and panels. His renditions speak to the core functionality of the franchise and why that, as this journey in Myst comes to a close, this particular vigilante remains relevant. Save for a few stiff renditions this piece enjoys an impressive display that’s further augmented by Slamet Mujiono and the dynamic colors adorning each sequence.

Grimm Fairy Tales presents Robyn Hood: Legend #5 is an entry that remains locked on target. I don’t agree with all the outcomes contained here but for the most part, thanks to the talents behind it, I was floored by the package. It comes recommended.
