Grimm Fairy Tales presents Robyn Hood: Legend #2 Review

Is this really a trilogy you should pay attention to? Read on to find out.

The official description from Zenescope:

Robyn has returned to Myst with a group of uneasy allies, but she finds the realm much different than when she left it. Nottingham is being lorded over by the villainous Sheriff, and there doesn’t seem to be a way to pierce his defenses. With nowhere else to look, Robyn turns to Avella for help… but will her old nemesis offer her answers, or a brand new problem?

GFT Robyn Hood-Legend 2_Preview PageI believe that the legacy of this particular company lives within its ability to craft a larger universe while birthing corners that are innately interesting. When it comes to the continuing exploits of a particular female archer, there’s a lot to admire. And as the creative team continues to stretch their legs this third volume is certainly getting underway in the best light possible.

Pat Shand gives personalty to a heroine that’s hard-nosed and vulnerable. To be frank that’s what makes this whole jaunt worthwhile, as the inner issues of Robyn Locksley bubble to the surface. Our main character has found herself in a place with unlikely allies and former foes, but through it all we feel for her. She’s written as a genuine person and credit for that goes to the literary scribe behind this who, even now, maintains a fresh perspective on her without sacrificing the experiences she’s had to endure.

The visual side of things is handled expertly by Larry Watts. As fans flip through these pages they’re given a detailed world with a vast cast and display carrying quite a few memorable panels along the way. Minus a few renditions that seemed a bit too stiff, the entire body of work felt kinetic. Add in the dynamic colors done Slamet Mujiono and you have a riveting component that absolutely completes this engaging experience.

Grimm Fairy Tales presents Robyn Hood: Legend #2 is the type of comic I hope to cover for this site. It’s exciting, compelling and it feels like a worthwhile portion in a trilogy of arcs. Recommended.
