Is this worth your time? Read on to find out.

The official description from Zenescope:

The barriers between earth and the realms of power are weakening. The government is becoming more and more concerned with the recent activities of the Dark Horde. They move in secret among humans as they never have before and Neverland seems to be the focal point of their activities. Nathan Cross knows Neverland as well as any man on earth and as part of the governments Realm Knight initiative he is called on to lead a strike team into the realm find out exactly what the Horde is up to. It’s a mission that will reunite him with long lost friends…if he manages to survive.

GFT presents Neverland-Age of Darkness 1_Preview Page AThere’s a lot to love in this outing but perhaps the most striking aspect comes directly from the steady hands that guide this tale of intrigue. Our hero is faced with a complicated intersection between the life he has and the duty he feels.

Joe Brusha works with script writer Dan Wickline to bring this journey to life. Through the written word we see our hero sift through his own personal issues while a growing threat in Neverland reveals itself on Earth. It’s a natural and expansive narrative that suffers from some pacing issues as an overabundance of text and attempts at comedy slows down this release. As it all begins here there’s certainly enough promise within the text to guarantee an arc worth returning to.

The art by Luca Claretti is just what the comic requires. It’s not something that’s going to wow people but it does easily maintain the overall quality of this burgeoning volume. We see a consistent hand that’s enhanced by the vibrant colors done by Renato Guerra. To sum up, this is a capable display that doesn’t hinder or uplift but instead allows it to continue its positive strides toward what should be a properly Grimm homecoming.

Grimm Fairy Tales presents Neverland: Age of Darkness #1 is a solid start to what should certainly transform into a worthwhile yarn. This supernatural comic easily earns a recommendation.
