EXCLUSIVE: Lonnie Millsap talks COMEDY and COMICS

While attending last year’s COMIKAZE Expo, I was able to speak with some awesome talents, such as Lonnie Millsap.

He’s a self published comedy writer / illustrator that just delivers on the laughs.

Read on to find out what he had to say!

UTF: Where did you get the idea to do go into comedy writing?

Lonnie Millsap: I’ve always done sort of single panel stuff in sketchbooks. I started out when I was young. I didn’t follow through on trying to be professional at it. You, know just went into the corporate operations world. But I still sketched all the time. People told me that I should do something with it. I finally decided to make a book in 2010.

UTF:  How do you find your parody material?

Lonnie Millsap: You know, just generally, I’m not looking for it. Things happen that will spark it. Like for example, here today, I’ve come up with some sketches and stuff.

UTF: As an independent publisher, how do you go about trying to find your audience while competing with larger companies?

Lonnie Millsap: That’s sort of what I’m in the process of figuring out right now. Itis gaining momentum. Luckily, I was able to get into, as an exhibitor into events like SDCC, and stuff like that, at the very beginning. Even my web presence is growing a bit too.

I’m getting more business than I thought I would, so it’s going in that direction.

UTF: Before we close out, I just have one last question. If you had one thing to say to the fanboys and fangirls that freuent our site what would you say to them?

Lonnie Millsap: You should read my books, because they make you laugh and other books do not make you laugh!
