Legend of the Shadow Clan #3 Review

As this tale of modern ninjas combined with family drama continues, can the creative team deliver something that’s worthy of their audience’s attention?  Read on to find out.

The official description from Aspen:

When 17-year-old Brayden Arashi discovered that he and his siblings were part of an ancient and powerful ninja family called the Shadow Clan, he thought his troubles were over. A mediocre student and athlete with no hobbies to speak of, he was one of those people that just never did anything particularly well. But now, finally, he felt like he was part of something special. Unfortunately for Brayden and his family, their troubles are just beginning, because the Arashi had a deadly rival — the Ghost clan — a vicious and deadly group of ninja who’ve been searching for the Shadow Clan for centuries…and now they’ve found them!

Legend of the Shadow Clan is an impressive title thus far, as both the visual and verbal components of this literary jaunt work in unison to yield something that’s both original and entertaining.  Whether we’re dealing with simple situations or complicated battle sequences the dynamic duo behind this is certainly up to the challenge.

When it comes to narratives the series scribe, David Wohl, is a master of laying the ground work for an action packed crescendo.  The first two outings offered sufficient back story to make you feel for this family, and as they come into danger with this release anxiety literally fills each block of text.  The pace of the comic book begins with a rather slow start but when this arc gets going it really picks up speed in all the right ways.

Cory Smith once again does an outstanding job on the art.  His pencil strokes brilliantly highlight the strongest feature of this narrative while delivering, quite convincingly, on the more outlandish components of this little romp.  All and all there’s absolutely nothing wrong with the work on display as the talent effortlessly brings this saga to full birth.

Legend of the Shadow Clan #3 is an outstanding release that’s easily worth your money and time.  Highly recommended.
