Jirni #4 Review

Life only gives us what we can handle, but should devoted followers be forced to endure yet another entry of this burgeoning franchise?  Read on to find out.

The official description from Aspen:

Take an incredible JIRNI with Aspen¹s newest hit series!

In the wake of her vicious battle with Anjaha, Ara struggles to grasp her mysterious connection to the violent d’jinn. But, the time has come for Ara to face the truth about herself as she finally tracks down her mother along with Torinthal, the sorcerer who captured her! Yet, that is only if she can survive the massive Rock Giants of Migara!

There are some paths that we all have to take in order to find our place in the world.  And that right there, to me, is what we’re witnessing within the confines of these pages as this stellar creative team delivers on genre tropes while executing some character development in the process.

J.T. Krul pens the script and I have to say the scribe absolutely nails a story that captures the right elements of adventure combined with a simplistic plot that’s just simply inviting right from the onset.  Working hard to sell the authenticity of this compelling trip the scribe thrives on action set pieces, while making room for the growth of our young but eager heroine. At this point she’s truly shaping up to be someone that’s worth following, even though there were sequences that felt just a bit off from what’s been established.

The pictures by Paolo Pantalena are, without a doubt, the highlight of this affair as the artist births a book that carries with it breathtaking visions.  Proof of that is in the seamless execution of some highly complex battles that will easily captivate and please its core audience.  From the first panel on I was impressed as I gleefully followed the character work and background renditions to guide me toward a cliffhanger finish.

Jirni #4 is a successful outing that continues to allow this team to sit pretty with a franchise that’s both goofy and engaging in all the right ways.  Recommended.
