Jack Kirby is the King of Kickstarter

Jeremy Kirby, Jack Kirby’s grandson, started a Kickstarter campaign yesterday that has almost doubled its goal of $7,500!  The campaign is to fund a hardcover coffee table book titled The Life and Time of Jack Kirby featuring hundreds of personal photographs, artwork and a never-before-seen play written by his grandfather called Frog Prince.

In the description for the project, Jeremy is incredibly passionate about creating an ode to his amazing grandfather, calling it his dream to make this book.

I love reading about Jack Kirby’s early life.  Jack Kirby is the man who co-created much of the mythology that I love.  He is also one of the most connectable people ever in the comic industry.  Just like my family, he was a Jewish-American whose family came through Ellis Island around the turn of the century.  He ran the streets of the Lower East Side of Manhattan creating a better life for himself with his creativity and incredible work ethic.  Jack was kind and caring, but also often angry and always tough as hell.  For lack of better terms; Jack Kirby kept it real.

The incentives for the project are way too sweet.  You can get some prints and a copy of the book by pledging $50.  A piece of Jack Kirby original artwork was an incentive for $1,000, but that one went right away.  Damn, I swear, I would have broke the bank for an original Kirby piece of art.  That is the best investment eeeeever.

Check out some great pictures of Jack below.  The campaign ends on June 20th.  Visit the Kickstarter page by clicking here.
