What isn’t Marvel Doing?

So did you hear? A Marvel Comic is getting a new movie!!! That’s right a brand new hero or group of heroes will be featured in their own flick coming soon. I for one am so very excited.

No seriously I am very pumped for all the new Marvel movies that will be dropping within the next few years. I am a big Marvel fan, and some of my favorites have been confirmed as movies in the past few days. My advice to Marvel, be very careful. I understand that any hero with the Marvel branding is a cash cow right now, but that will not last. Just because you make it doesn’t mean that it will be good.

As of now we will have new movies (reboots included) scheduled for Guardians of the Galaxy, Ant-Man, Black Panther, Dr. Strange, The Inhumans, Fantastic Four, and Daredevil. That’s not mentioning that X-Men, Spider-Man, Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, and the Hulk will all be getting sequels. Then it was announced that Punisher, Ghost Rider, and Blade all are back with Marvel. Also they will be trying to make at least one super-heroin action flick. This is before mentioning their attempts at creating new TV shows.

As awesome as all this seems, I am absolutely terrified. Don’t get me wrong, I have loved almost every Marvel movie that has come out since 2000, almost being the key word here. There have been some gem, but there have been almost as many bombs. Movies have made Ghost Rider a joke, the Fantastic Four pathetic, Elektra a laughingstock, and Daredevil, well I just don’t have the heart to say. Not to mention Spider-Man 3, X3, and both Wolverine movies were pretty sad.

Now I respect that Marvel has control over these characters, that they created, when in the past they didn’t. But think of DC. Remember the Johan Hex movie? No? Well that’s cause it was crap. What about Green Lantern? You have to remember that one. DC has learned the hard way that not any character can just be in a movie and the movie will be good. Let’s just hope that Marvel picks up on that.

Now I will admit, any of these movies if produced, written, and directed well can be a hit. Marvel just can’t cut corners, and they have to make sure they hire the right people for each and every character they use. If not they will run the risk of alienating their fans for good. We can’t take another Daredevil flop, or another Ghost Rider flop, or another Fantastic Four flop… Please Marvel just be careful.
