GARBAGE PAIL KIDS COMIC BOOK PUKE-TACULAR #1 REVIEW

The cultural phenomenon has finally hit the comic book scene, but is it worth reading? Read on to find out more.

Remember mullets and teased bangs? Stonewashed denim jackets and jeans? Well, not everything about the ’80s was lame, because that’s when the Garbage Pail Kids ruled the world! Those irreverent, satirical stickers quickly became a pop-culture phenomenon, but they never had their own comic book… until now! In the spirit of the avant-garde cartoonists and humorists who fathered these miscreants, a new generation of alternative-comics creators has lent their unique talents to bring the Garbage Pail Kids into the wacky world of comics- just in time for their 30th birthday!

The garbage pail kids were something that I didn’t grow up with but I did discover them later on in GarbagePailKids-PukeTacular-pr-3-37998my child hood. So I am familiar with the stickers and movie. This comic is taking some of those characters and paying tribute to their odd and quirky lives. It is very gross and odd. I can’t say that I liked it but I thought it did a good job of giving us some garbage pail humor. There is one great story where a writer talks about becoming a garbage pail kid and it is the best story out of the anthology.

Peter Bagge and Dean Haspiel, both, writers and artists, do a great job of creating interesting and gross stories about these odd characters. You can tell that these authors like these characters and they do a great job of going the full distant with them. It is, also, a beautiful looking comic.  Again, I didn’t really care for it but the art is really well done and does add another layer to this comic. I do feel if I was younger that I would really cling to this comic, but since I am not I found it a little too much for me.

Garbage Pail Kids is a fun gross comic but it wasn’t for me.
