The official description from Image:

“OUT OF THE WASTELAND”
The things that divide us are stronger than the things that unite us. A Sci-Fi Western set in a dystopian America where all hope for the future rests in the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse…who just happen to be trying to kill the President of the United States.

One of the most exciting new books of the year, this is EAST OF WEST, a brand new, ongoing, monthly comic from the award-winning team of Marvel’s FF, JONATHAN HICKMAN and NICK DRAGOTTA.

Let me start this off by saying I absolutely love westerns, so when I heard about this book me covering felt right.  And after reaching the conclusion of this first part I can honestly say I wasn’t disappointed.

The script by Jonathan Hickman from the first page to final panel wastes absolutely no time as the storied author creates an alternate history that effortlessly builds up to Armageddon.  Information is delivered quickly as the series scribe builds his world without boring the audience that purchases this release.  In fact he yields a tale that will impress curious readers from start to finish in way that should excite them plus every single fan that’s dedicated to the comic book industry.

Nick Dragotta handles the art and the style that’s offered is absolutely breathtaking. His pencil strokes create a massively impressive visual treat that’s just ebbing and flowing with the dark tone associated with the apocalypse.  Whether he’s taking the time to bring life to an alternative history of the United States or delivering a frightening interaction with the Four Horseman this talent proves on literally every single page that there was no other choice for this job.

East of West #1 is a brilliant release that start this series in the best way possible. From the illustrations to the written word this has got to be the most impressive launch I’ve reviewed for Unleash The Fanboy.  Highly recommended.
