AQUAMAN #12 Gets a Hilariously Awesome VARIANT COVER

To commemorate the upcoming Robot Chicken DC Comics Special (you can checkout the trailer here), the comic publisher has sent out an interesting variant cover for the upcoming issue of Aquaman.

DC Comics chief creative officer Geoff Johns had this to say about the cover:

This is the last thing I ever thought we’d put on an Aquaman cover because it’s such a bizarre collision of worlds but I think it’s one of the best covers we’ve ever done…I just love the look on Superman’s face!  Aquaman will play a pretty big role in the show.  In fact, the title could just as easily be How Aquaman Got His Groove Back!”

He went on to talk about the actual content in the issue:

Our plot is deadly serious.  It’s part 2 of our story ‘The Others,’ where we find out Aquaman belonged to an entirely different team of heroes before he joined Justice League. Now someone is picking off his old partners, one by one, and it all ties into his archenemy Black Manta. The story reveals a much darker side of Aquaman and what Atlantis was really all about.

So what do you guys think?  Is this a good variant cover that gets you sufficiently excited for the Robot Chicken DC Comics Special?  Or is this just a shameless cash-in that makes little to no sense?  Sound off with your thoughts and opinions in the comments section below.
