Is Red Dead Redemption 2 in Development?

I realise I am probably in the vast minority here, but with the exception of China Town Wars the GTA franchise just hasn’t done it for me since GTA 3, I found 4 extremely repetitive and actually kind of boring! However I fell in love with Rockstar’s Red Dead Redemption in 2010.

The game, set in the wild west, was released at the perfect time in my life, I was in second year at university and finished my exams the week it came out. Better yet my exams finished in the first week of exam leave, which meant I had 4 weeks left at uni with no lectures, tests, or moaning parents to worry about, meaning I was free to roam the vast locales of Rockstars highly stylised game (in between night time excursions celebrating the beginning of summer) and distract my housemates who were still frantically studying for their exams (sorry guys). There was a plethora of things to do in Red Dead’s open world, from herding cattle, tackling bandits, to playing poker, and John Marston‘s story was utterly compelling, and despite devoting days of playing time on the game I was still left wanting more!

And today when IGN went and sat down with Rockstar they let slip that something may be in the works for the newest of their franchises, when pushed by IGN’s questioning they had the following to say; “we love Red Dead too – and are thrilled that so many of you loved John Marston’s tale and are excited for more epic Western action. As we mentioned in our last set of Asked & Answereds to similar questions about the future of other game franchises like Bully and L.A. Noire, we don’t always rush to make sequels but that does not mean that we won’t get to them eventually. Stay tuned for further announcements about the future of the Red Dead series.”

Hopefully that means a bigger and even better return to the world of Red Dead, only time will tell but if they are already working on a sequel count me in!

GTA 4 was easily the best game of its generation in my opinion. I doubt there’ll be another Red Dead for a while yet, Rockstar value quality over quantity ans quality takes time. They’re one of the few studios that don’t have to bow to the whims of Activision, EA or Ubisoft thank Jeebus. At least I think that’s the case, correct me if I’m wrong.

Each to their own, I enjoyed GTA 4 at first but found the charm quickly wore off and underneath that lay a go fetch game, it just felt uninspired and boring, especially when you see how diverse Chine Town Wars was which was only released a short time after. I really hope they get more creative in their missions with GTA 5. But yes you’re right they take time to make a quality game rather than churn out the same thing on a yearly basis, which is good for gamers.
