FINAL FANTASY VERSUS XIII To Become Next Gen?

Final Fantasy Versus XIII has had a trouble development to say the least. It’s currently in it’s seventh year of development, and hasn’t been seen since 2011. The latest rumor to come out is that Square Enix may have decided to push Versus XIII onto the next generation of consoles.

The rumor comes from NeoGAF user Verendus and he says that this change will be revealed later this year when the game is finally shown again. He maintains that the game hasn’t been cancelled. In addition to this he has also said that work on Final Fantasy 15 and 16 is under way. He seems to believe that Versus XIII will not be released under that title so it’s possible that Final Fantasy 15 could indeed be Versus, which would presumably make it a PS3 exclusive like Versus was meant to be had it ever come out.

If it becomes Final Fantasy 15 will it no longer be a Fabula Nova Crystallis game?

Surely with the game having been in development for so long there is the possibility that it could turn up as a launch title, or at least launch window, for the PS4. I guess we could hear more on the potential PS4 reveal on February 20th!

Square Enix have so far refused to comment so take this all with a pinch of salt. The in game cut scenes certainly looked like next gen quality, if they could get the game running similarly it would look spectacular.

What do you guys think? Have Square Enix missed the boat on this one, or is it a savvy move to push the game to the next console cycle, giving it a fresh start? Let us know in the comments below.
