We’re in the era of film studios beginning to take video game film adaptations seriously. Franchises such as Warcraft, Assassin’s Creed, Mass Effect, Metal Gear Solid and Splinter Cell are all getting major productions. Video game releases are seeing billion dollar hits. Allowing studios to target worldwide fan-bases for future feature films. A new live-action trailer for Call of Duty Ghosts comes from Wolverine director James Mangold. It features a cameo from Transformers and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles actress Megan Fox. Continuing their tongue-and-cheek ad campaign. This one being a little less of a serious than with the Halo franchise’s live-action spots. It’ll be interesting to see when we’ll actually see a Call of Duty film hit theatres.

A studio hasn’t been named for a Call of Duty film but in 2009 actor Kevin McKidd said a movie was in the works. Kevin played the character Soap at the time. However, the folks over at Activision stated  to TheNewYorkTimes they had no plans to turn the games into films. In 2010, the company put in place massive trademarks on the games so they couldn’t be shown in movies or television. We might never see a Call of Duty film but studios could end up making an offer that Activision has to bite.  I assume the company would rather put all their efforts into the installments. Which have larger scooping worlds and stories, along with bigger profits. Basing a film on their Zombies side-game could be a better bet for getting a movie deal. I’d lay down good money to see a Mob of The Dead film.

“Call of Duty may look like a movie, but Mr. Kotick has little interest in turning it into one – and has turned down several studios’ requests. He says movies based on video games rarely please devoted fans and could taint the brand.”
