And The Weirdest Movie Adaptation Announcement Goes To…. GRAN TURISMO!

Well that came out of nowhere. According to a report by The Wrap, Sony are getting in on the ‘fast cars’ movie trend by developing an adaptation of… Gran Turismo? Even weirder, at the helm of this project are none other than the Fifty Shades of Grey producers Mike De Luca and Dana Brunetti.

We recently heard that Dreamworks would be collaborating with EA to bring the Need For Speed franchise to the big screen but even that makes more sense. Need for Speed is an arcade racer with lots of action and excitement. Gran Turismo is about doing your very best to slow down for corners so you don’t hit bumpers with the equally gorgeous car model next to you. Or if you’re me, doing your damned best to find your way back onto the track and off the gravel/grass (I’m really not good at this game).

Gran Turismo’s calling card is it’s insanely life-like cars… which loses it’s appeal when they’re actually, y’know, real.

Gran Turismo is undeniably popular, being Playstation’s highest selling franchise at around 70 million copies sold worldwide. Whether that popularity will transfer over to the movie is yet to be seen. I’m still flabbergasted by the news, seriously of all of Sony’s videogame franchises this is the last one I’d expect to have an adaptation. What’s next, a Buzz movie?!
