A BATTLESTAR GALACTICA Game That Doesn’t Suck Exists!

People have been clamoring for a great Battlestar Galactica game for years and years, heck we included it ourselves in this list. Sad to say, they’ve been disappointed. Officially licensed games have been poor and mods trying to replicate the experience have fallen by the wayside. Until now! After 4 years of development the Diaspora Development team have finally released their mod of Freespace 2 called Diaspora: Shattered Armistice. Yes, it is in fact a Battlestar Galactica space shooter, the gods have answered our prayers.

It takes place 40 years after the Colonial/Cylon war, since which the Cylons haven’t been seen. Until they reappear, breaking the armistice and causing you to rub the rust off your Raptor (not a euphemism) and go blast the living, well non-living, crap out of them. Here’s the list of game features:

  • Fly the MK VII Viper, the Raptor or the new MK VIIe strike variant.
  • Take part in furious battles against Cylon forces.
  • Play multiplayer missions against your friends as Colonial or Cylon forces.
  • Completely voice acted throughout.
  • Original soundtrack inspired by the show
  • Create your own missions and share them with the included mission editor.

It sounds incredible, and according to Kotaku it’s fantastic. Sure it might not have all of the fancy politics, intrigue and choice that would be in the perfect BSG game but it makes a damn good start! Sadly the site to download it has gone down from heavy traffic but I’ll link to the site and to a google cached version that should work as well. Now I just hope there’s a Scar character so I can shoot that motherfrakker down.
