SLEEPY HOLLOW: “The Lesser Key of Solomon” Review

Are the bounds between these estranged sisters strong enough to defeat the forces of evil?  Read on to find out.

The official description from Fox:

Lt. Abbie Mills (Nicole Beharie) and Ichabod Crane (Tom Mison) are on a hunt to find Mills’ estranged sister, Jenny (guest star Lyndie Greenwood), who has escaped from a Sleepy Hollow psychiatric hospital. In a game-changing episode, which includes flashbacks to the real Boston Tea Party, Abbie and Ichabod  discover more about the evil they are facing…and finally learn its name

Following last week’s engaging episode our heroes quickly find themselves back in the thick of it.  Some big time revelations and decidedly interesting historical twists litter this latest yarn.  I mentioned the performance of Lyndie Greenwood in my previous review, but trust me that rather short duration paled in comparison to what the actress brought to her role tonight.  On the lamb and hunted by, let’s call them a sleeper cell, she quickly finds out whether or not she can trust her sister (Nicole Beharie) and her new ally (Tom Mison).

The main plot threads of the series deepen with each passing second, as the grounds of Sleepy Hollow come face to face with more horrors from its guarded past.  To their credit all the actors brought their A game yielding yet another enjoyable romp on the supernatural side of the street.  After just four episodes the format of the traditional freak of the week mentality is clearly at play here but so far the writers have been smart enough to keep all the plot threads connected on some reasonable level.

The overall style of the latest episode continues to employ some cheap temporal gimmicks but nonetheless there’s plenty of narrative meat for fans to enjoy.  While it holds impressive visual effects I did find myself missing certain elements that were painfully absent again.  But with everything taken into account there’s certainly more than enough here to keep audience members busy.

Sleepy Hollow: “The Lesser Key of Solomon” is a step up from last week’s entry but the Headless Horseman is sorely missed.  Recommended.
