Green Lantern: The Animated Series “Prisoner of Sinestro” Review

This episode of Green Lantern: The Animated Series was originally going to air around Halloween last October, before DC Nation got delayed. Does this episode ratch up the scares?

In this episode, Hal Jordan (Josh Keaton), Kilowog (Kevin Michael Richardson), Aya (Grey DeLisle), and Razer (Jason Spisak) are on board the Interceptor when they receive a distress signal from fellow Green Lantern Sinestro (Ron Perlman), who has saved a prisoner from that spider planet. In the end, the Lanterns take the prisoner on board the ship. And that is when…strange things begin occuring.

I think I liked this episode. Why the hesitation you ask? Well, while watching it, I enjoyed it. But now that I think about it, there also weren’t any really great moments, either. The writers do a good job of building tension. The only problem is, it feels like a wasted effort since the plot twist is pretty obvious. Hmm, I wonder if the prisoner that they took aboard has anything to do with this? It makes the Lanterns look dumb.

Still, there are at least two good scenes. In one, Razer and Aya have a moments. Not a romantic one, but a creepy one that made me shift uncomftorably in my chair. The other is the final scene in tne episode that makes use of the TV-PG rating, as someone is killed off in a chilling manner. My only problem with the latter is that no one really seems to care all that much, except maybe Hal. Its too casual.

Sadly, otherwise, the episode was pretty standard. The action scenes weren’t as exciting as last week, and since the whole episode takes place onboard the ship, that limits the enviorment. And none of the dialogue stood out for me. The animation is nice, though, and Ron Perlman (Hellboy in the Hellboy films) does a really good job as Sinestro, and even though I’m not a fan of the character, I have to admit that Sinestro is pretty cool here, shown as being smart and competent.

So, anyway, not a bad episode, but nothing special either. Still, there are far worse ways to spend 25 minutes.
