ZAC EFRON In Talks for STAR WARS EPISODE 7

I might be the only excited fanboy in the room.

According to Zac Efron, he’s talked to J.J. Abrams and the good folks at LucasFilms about a role in STAR WARS EPISODE 7. That’s right. The dude from High School Musical and that one romantic comedy your ex-girlfriend forced you to endure, is officially in the mix. He joins Michael B Jordan, Ian Mcintyre, and a slew of Hollywood’s remaining young thespians who have all auditioned for a role in the New Trilogy.

Despite his pedigree of mediocre tween flicks, I think Efron’s perfect for a role. He’s got great range as an actor (watch 17 Again for his humor and Paperboy for his drama chops), he’s young, and he doesn’t exactly have a ton of studio suitors begging him for a contract. Oh, and he totally possesses the same wide eyed enthusiasm that a young Mark Hamill had.

We’re still not certain which characters will be included in Star Wars Episode 7, but if recent reports ring true, then Mara Jade is a definite addition, and she most likely spawned a few Jedi youth with her hubby Luke Skywalker (assuming they’re boning in the movie universe). Ben Skywalker is their male child, who later becomes a key player in the Darth Caedus saga… I wouldn’t want to say anymore, on account of spoilers and stuff.

Still, Star Wars Episode 7 is meant to create a new story for the franchise, entirely independent of the Expanded Universe books. Even though J. J. Abrams may borrow a character or two from those less than canonical sources, he’s promised not to adapt their stories, which means Ben Skywalker might not even be a role. But then again, Abrams likes to lie, and he could easily be knee deep in a Legacy of the Force adaptation (in which Darth Caedus wreaks havoc and the new generation of Jedi save the galaxy).

I, for one, welcome Zac Efron to the Star Wars mythos. He’s a great young actor without any previous iconic roles that would interfere with my suspension of disbelief. You know, because it’d be kinda difficult to watch Tom Hiddleston portray Jacen Skywalker on the big screen without shouting “Just use your damn sceptre, Loki!”

Oh, and for the folks out there who know Darth Caedus’s alter ego, don’t spoil it in the comments.
