Kids these days! They’ve no idea what ‘geek’ really means. Back in the day, geek was weird. Taboo. Uncool.

Now, ‘geek is chic’. Captain America is a legitimate badass, Gandalf is a sexy Halloween costume, and Magic The Gathering is… well, it’s still really weird, but you get my point. Geek is mainstream.

Well, once upon a time geeks didn’t hide behind mainstream fashion trends. We radiated nerdiness for all the world to see.

And when I saw this gorgeous picture of a young George R. R. Martin in all of his greasy hair, non-ironic mustache, Dad shirt wearing glory, I knew I had to share it.

So behold, our father of Song of Ice and Fire, the grand duderino, George R. R. Martin!

It’s only a matter of time before this look becomes the next hipster trend. Dibs on the oversized, yellow tinged glasses. I’d totally call dibs on the greasy long hair, too, but my follicles aren’t the strongest in the world. If I grow my hair any longer than a quarter inch, I develop a real “Nearly Bald” vibe.
