We have the bat, we have the butler, and if the newest rumor for Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice is true, we may be getting the trusted police ally as well. Batman-On-Film.com has a source that says it’s possible we’ll see Commissioner James Gordon in the eam-up film, although keep in mind this hasn’t been verified yet. Gordon was most recently played by Gary Oldman in the Christopher Nolan Batman films, and will be played by Ben McKenzie in the upcoming TV series Gotham.
Having Gordon appear in a minor role would make sense. As we’ve been repeatedly told, the Batfleck is a more seasoned and weary Batman than we’ve seen in other movies. The guy has been fighting crime in Gotham City for years, and as the article states, Batman would already have the Bat-Family established, including Commissioner Gordon. If Zack Snyder and the production team really want to satisfy fans, they’ll have Bats meet with Gordon atop the GCPD building with the Bat-Signal lit behind them at the beginning of the film. Yeah, we’ve seen it many times before, but that doesn’t make it any less cool!
But wait! Do we really need more Batman characters in this movie? Well remember, while Batman’s role in this movie is clearly just as important as Superman’s, let’s not forget that this is still largely a Superman movie. The Kryptonian is leading in the supporting characters (Lois Lane, Martha Kent, Perry White) and villain category (Lex Luthor). Who does Batman have so far? Alfred the butler. It’s 4-1…that’s basic math, people. Considering that the Adam Driver playing Nightwing rumor is all but dead, adding Gordon wouldn’t be much of a chore.
So…who could we get to play the esteemed commissioner? It would have to be someone who could potentially play him in future movies. Ah, I’ve got it! We didn’t get him as Luthor, so let’s put him in the second DC Comics role he was born to play: Bryan Cranston!
