Unboxing June 2015′s Geek Fuel

Geek Fuel is a monthly comic con in a box subscription service that will run you $23.90 a month.  If you order multiple boxes at once though you will be hooked up with various discounts and bonuses. Is May’s box worth the cash?  You be the judge.  May’s theme is Geeking Out 90’s Style, so I am definitely the target for this box.

Another month another Steam game with a cool trinket.  This month is Super Win The Game: Soundtrack Edition.  This game is a 8 bit throwback in visual style and game play.  Super Win The Game was 2012 Indiegame.com’s #1 platformer of the year.  The version comes with a soundtrack download, which is very cool to me.  I own a large number of film scores, and often stream old NES soundtracks while writing or working.  Super Win the Game’s music is fun and feels familiar even if you never heard it before.  Next we have a Scorpion book mark which is a cool little item, and a Power Rangers Magnet.  I never liked the Power Rangers, so while it is good quality it will be finding a new home with someone else.  Next we have the ultimate 90’s item, gack.  Excuse me Geek Fuel’s 90’s Mutant Hero Ooze.  The TMNT inspired packaging is cool, and as an editorial service I played with the ooze.  It is excactly how I remember it, seemingly gooey and unmanageable, yet easy to get back into the container.

The crate was rocking when I carried it inside, and the reason was two paperback novels.  Jurassic Park and The Lost World.  In 1994 I read Jurassic Park at least four times cover to cover. (As well as the JR novelization once) With the 4th movie in the film series out now, the two original Michael Crichton novels are a cool pair of items.  Also perfect for bathroom reading is Geek Fuel’s magazine.  While never spectacular I hope they keep including it.

Lastly we have an X-Files T shirt that says I Want to Believe and Trust no one in over 30 languages each, with a Da Vinci inspired alien front and center.  This is a great design because even as someone who bought the complete series on DVD (seems silly now with Netflix) it took me a moment to recognize the Alien.  Very happy with this T.

Was this month’s 90’s inspired Geek Fuel worth the $23.90 price tag to you.  While the items included definitely exceeded that value it all comes down to if you like the franchises represented.  As a nerdy fella in my 30’s this was a great bit of nostalgia delivered to my door, though you younger fanboys and girls out there may not appreciate it.
