Top 10 Geek Raps

Hip Hop is no stranger to fanboy culture, comics, movies and video games have inspired many an artist, so we have put together our 10 favourite Geek Raps, check ‘em out below:

YTCracker – Meganerd

Incase the title didn’t give it away this rap is a pure celebration of all things nerdy… oh and as if that wasn’t enough the beat is a sample of the intro music from MegaMan III. YTCracker loves video games so much that he released a whole album, NerdRap Entertainment System, with songs whose beats sampled Nintendo games from the 8-bit era.

MC Chris - Fett’s Vette

Along with YTCracker MC Chris is one of the pioneers of Nerdcore Hip-Hop, with Fett’s Vette being possibly his most famous song after being featured in Kevin Smith’s Zack and Miri Make a Porno. The rap is about the adventures of, yep you guessed it, everyone’s favourite inter-galactic bounty hunter, the Fett man himself.

Snoop – Batman and Robin

The D – O – Double G lets his geeky side loose with this brilliant tribute to our favourite caped crusader. Inspired by the classic camp show of the 60′s that starred Adam West as the titular hero, Snoop throws in dozens of winks and nods to the Dark Knight.

Ashuru – Boondocks Theme

The theme tune for what is quite possibly the funniest cartoon to grace television in the last 10 years. Ashuru managed to not only create a great rap song but a truly memorable theme song too.

DangerDoom – A.T.H.F

It was hard to pick just one song from the collaborative album between Doom (formerly known as M.F. Doom) and Danger Mouse as the entire album drew inspiration from Adult Swim cartoons. However A.T.H.F, obviously inspired by Aqua Teen Hunger Force, is not only a great song, but it also has the best video of the lot.

Vanilla Ice – Ninja Rap

He might not have made the song out of love for everyone’s favourite anthropomorphic reptiles but the catchy “Go Ninja, Go Ninja, Go” will live long in the memory of any fanboy who was around in the 90′s.

Adam WarRock – Hawkeye & Mockingbird

Nerdcore artist Adam WarRock recorded a whole album the West Coast Avengers, the album features individual songs about members of the group including Tigra and U.S Agent. All of the songs are great, one of our favourites is “Hawkeye & Mockingbird”, featuring fast paced lyrics and sampling Tupac’s “Me and My Girlfriend” it’s one of the albums highlights, but honestly the whole album is great so check it out here.

Last Emperor – Secret Wars Part 1

Named after Marvel’s 1984 superhero cross over Secret Wars Part 1. With lines such as “Illmatic versus radioactive in the rotten apple where the dead linger, He cursed the day that spider ever bit him”, this song doesn’t even try to hide it’s geeky influence, and is truly deserving of a place on our list.

D Double E – Street Fighter Riddim

“Oh my gosh, it’s D Double!” Our U.S friends might not have heard of D Double E, but the British grime star’s Street Fighter Riddim is possibly the most Fanboy-ish rap on our list.

Childish Gambino – Eat Your Vegetables

After starring on the cover of Image comics’ Lil Depressed Boy, it should come as no surprise that Donald Glover a.k.a Childish Gambino would throw in some fanboy related content into his raps. There were a plethora of songs to choose from (seriously his album is littered with them) but our favourite is Eat Your Vegetables, whose beat uses a sample from Donkey Kong Country‘s Aquatic Ambiance theme which you might remember from the underwater levels.
