Deadline reports that Avatar actor Stephen Lang has signed on to return as Colonel Miles Quaritch for all three Avatar sequels. Which would begin with Avatar 2. According to star Sam Worthington the first sequel begins production in October 2014 with a release date of December 2016 . There had been some rumblings via LatinoReview that Arnold Schwarzenegger could be joining the franchise as a villainous General, which isn’t entirely out of the question, despite this Lang news.
The sequels are currently being scripted by Josh Friedman tackling Avatar 2, Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver handling duties on Avatar 3 (December 2017), and Shane Salerno writing Avatar 4 (December 2018). While James Cameron would be providing outlines and help during the writing process. The focus of the film is still unknown but there had been talk of exploring Pandora’s oceans.
It will be interesting to see how they bring back Colonel Quaritch. My speculation is likely clones of the Colonel have been scattered across other interstellar colonies. Or perhaps a long lost twin? Anyways, I’m sure it will be interesting no matter how James Cameron resurrects the villain. I’m still on the fence about James Cameron wasting his time making three Avatar sequels. When are we gonna see Battle Angel: Alita? However, I’m sure that wily director will win me over eventually.
