STAR WARS REBELS Introduces Sabine The Mandalorian

In a group that’s so far comprised of only guys, we finally have a lady joining the cast. Sabine is the newest Star Wars Rebels character to be revealed by Disney and Lucasfilm. As the ship’s weapons expert and resident Mandalorian, Sabine is described as “sassy, spunky and feisty.” as has an affinity for blowing things up, although she does it with flair and style. Sabine will be voiced by Tiya Sicar (The Internship, The Vampire Diaries), and she joins the crew of The Ghost alongside astromech droid Chopper, former Jedi Kanan, teen outcast Ezra and intelligent tough guy Zeb.

The series will take place between Episodes III and IV as “the Empire is securing its grip on the galaxy and hunting down the last of the Jedi Knights as a fledgling rebellion against the Empire is taking shape.” Unlike Mandalorian bounty hunter Boba Fett, Sabine is actively fighting the Empire, but she also doubles as a graffiti artist. Although she makes sure to tag each spot she attacks, Joel AronCG supervisor of lighting and FX, reveals, art is also important to her personality.

She’s adding something that we haven’t really seen before in the Star Wars universe. You have a character that is expressively creative through art — whether it’s the color of her hair or what she’s done to her armor. She personalizes things.”

As you can expect from a female Mandalorian fighting the Empire, Sicar reiterated that Sabine isn’t a stereotypical girl’s girl, but actually quite tough.

She’s cool, she’s smart, she’s kind of a tomboy, she’s not like a prissy little girl, and I like that.

Like Ahsoka from The Clone Wars, I’m glad they’re introducing a female character for the girls watching the show to look up to. Admittedly, the pink armor looks a little weird compared to the armor we’ve seen Boba and Jango wear, but I can get past that. As usual, I’m just looking forward to seeing another character beat up on some stormtroopers. Could this mean a Boba Fett cameo as well?
