STAR WARS EPISODE VII’s Millenium Falcon And X-Wings Spotted From High Above

Unlike the prequels, which relied way too much on CGI, J.J. Abrams and people close to the Star Wars Episode VII production have assured fans that practical effects will primarily be used for the first installment of the sequel trilogy, from set design to alien costumes. We’ve seen proof of this from leaked photos these past couple months, but the newest photos to hit the Interwebs show just how “big” they’re willing to go.

A Twitter user named FlyMAC was flying over the Greenham Common in Berkshire, England, when he snapped this photo of some us usual-looking aircraft.

One’s covered up and the other is only half-built, but it’s clear as day: those are life-sized models of an X-Wing and the Millennium Falcon. Another Twitter user named Justin Reeves has since snapped his own picture of the area, showing two other docked X-Wings.

Unless you completely avoid all Star Wars-related news, you likely already knew that these ships would be in the film, especially since J.J. Abrams has teased the hell out of them in his subtle-but-not-really social media videos and pictures. Regardless, it’s still great to see that they’re making the effort to build these ships rather than just rely on CGI. I’m actually surprised they’re building a full-scale Millennium Falcon. I know that fanboy/director Kevin Smith said that he stepped into the Falcon when he visited the production, but I figured that was just an interior set of the Falcon. To see that classic ship being built it its entirety…wow!

It’s a good thing these ships are back in action, because there’s still evil afoot! While there have been rumors aplenty about the Episode VII villains, we haven’t heard anything official about them…until now. Once again, Abrams has tweeted out a not-so-subtle picture, with this text card referencing the Apple Watch. Look at the lights reflected on the table.

Now compare them to the lighting from a certain space station.

Is the Empire still around? Does this mean we’re getting another Death Star?! Well, you what they say: third time’s a charm!
