The last time we saw Seth Gabel as the Count, he was still in a drug-induced stupor from his first encounter with “The Hood” (should I start calling him The Arrow now?), and was being framed for selling a more potent version of his trademark drug Vertigo on the streets. Well, he may not have been the mastermind behind that episode’s crime, but it’s like I always say: you can’t keep a drug-addled European psychopath down for long.
Green Arrow TV has released a description for Arrow’s Nov. 20 episode “State vs. Queen,” and it sees the return of the Count as a prominent antagonist. Here’s the description:
MOIRA FIGHTS FOR HER LIFE; THE COUNT RETURNS — Oliver (Stephen Amell) is concerned when a mysterious illness sweeps the city, infecting hundreds of people, including Diggle (David Ramsey). Oliver discovers Vertigo in Diggle’s blood and realizes The Count (guest star Seth Gabel) has broken out of prison and is once again distributing his drug.
The Count was one of Arrow’s better villains from last season, and I’m glad he’s coming back to screw with Oliver some more. I will say that it was very obvious that he would return. You don’t take an iconic DC character like Count Vertigo and relegate him to only two episodes in the first season. Yeah, Oliver killed a lot of criminals last season, but most of the time he never managed to kill the ones that have notoriety in the comic world. Coincidence? I think not!
