Did Sean Bean Really Just Confirm RHAEGAR + LYANNA = JON SNOW?

Whoa! Alright fanboys and fangirls, if you’d like to retain your spoiler-free knowledge of Game of Thrones, then bust on back to our homepage. We’re about to venture into the sordid world of A Song of Ice And Fire fan theories. Few ever dare to enter these waters… Well, that’s not exactly true. A whole rabbling horde of forums exists with the sole intent of speculating on the future of Westeros, but for those uninitiated few who’ve only ever known the mythos through HBO’s splendid series, you’re best not reading any further.

Alright, now that we’ve got that out of the way…

Sean Bean might’ve spoiled Game of Thrones a bit. He participated in a Reddit AMA earlier today, which is basically a forum-based interview, and when jokingly asked about Jon Snow’s ignorance, Sean Bean stated “Because he’s not mine!”

Obviously Mr. Bean is joking. At least, in his response to the Redditor. His joke might be predicated on information that we don’t know, though. The cast and crew of Game of Thrones are privy to far more information than the public, and even if Ned Stark was joking, he might’ve revealed a bit too much.

For the longest time, we’ve only known that the show’s producers knew the book series’ major plot points. George R. R. Martin admitted as much when pestered with repeated questions like “So, if you die, will the tv show writers, just like, make up everything?”. But, after this most recent season of Game of Thrones, when HBO accidentally leaked the identity of a super saiyan White Walker named the Night’s King, we know far more folks are ‘in the know’ than just the producers.

Without reading too much into Sean Bean’s fun exchange, did he totally 100% irrefutably just leak Rhaegar Targaryen and Lyanna Stark as the true parents of Jon Snow?!??!!? Maybe.  If Jon Snow isn’t sired by Ned Stark, then the only likely birth parents are R + L.  Without realizing the impact of his words, he might’ve admitted that Ned Stark wasn’t truly Jon’s pappy, which is a pretty big confirmation of our fan theories!!!
