Scoot McNairy Rocking Weird Green Screen Socks On BATMAN V SUPERMAN Set

Warner Bros may not be divulging any story details on Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, but they’ve been pretty forthcoming about their casting. Hell, at this point they’re not outright denying that Jason Momoa is playing Aquaman. However, there is one actor whose role has been a complete mystery. Scoot McNairy, Ben Affleck’s Argo costar, was cast in late June, but since then there hasn’t been any information on who he’s playing. He could be anyone from a super villain to a politician to a hot dog vendor. Well thanks to a leaked set picture, we may have a better idea of what his role might be in the superhero epic.

Someone named Bananadoc snapped this photo of McNairy on set and sent it to Batman-News.com. Take a look at what’s wrapped around his legs.

See, some sort of green screen wrappings. Maybe socks? Either way, this means that there will be some post-production work on his legs. The question now is what character he’s playing that would require VFX. When I first saw this, I suspected Green Lantern. McNairy looks like he’d make a good Hal Jordan, and the green screen socks could represent the boots of his uniform as he suits up. Other popular ideas include Metallo or Parasite. The former’s legs would be robotic, while the latter’s would be overtaken by some weird skin deformity.

However, Batman-News had another suspect: The Flash. And they may have something there. Today, Badass Digest reported that according to their sources, Green Lantern will not appear in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice. His premiere is being saved for Justice League. With all the other Justice Leaguers accounted for, if McNairy is indeed playing a member of the superhero team, Flash is the only candidate left, and the socks could represent his uniform’s boots.

Back in June, it was rumored that The Flash would cameo in the film being seen on security camera footage foiling a convenience store robbery. However, the footage was said only to show a blur, not an actual man. If McNairy is indeed playing the Scarlet Speedster, either the rumor was incorrect (although footage was shot at a store in Keego Harbor, Michigan for several hours) or the character’s role has since been expanded.

McNairy certainly has the chops to play The Flash, but it doesn’t make since why The Flash’s boots would be a special effect rather than real. Didn’t they learn anything from Green Lantern. Personally, I’m still placing my bets on him playing one of Lex Luthor’s underlings. This is backed up by other set pictures taken by Twitter user Tim Reinman, which showed Tao Okamoto, who plays Lex Luthor’s bodyguard Mercy Graves, nearby.

Whether he’s The Flash or one of Lex Luthor’s men, one thing is for sure: McNairy’s legs are going to look weird come March 2016.
