Nick Fury isn’t the only former high-level S.H.I.E.L.D. agent that will be gracing our TV screens in the coming weeks. TV Line is reporting that Cobie Smulders will reprise her role as Maria Hill in the April 29 episode of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Not only will Hill play a “large role in the May sweeps episode,” but those who have been wanting a Coulson/Hill team-up will get one, and it will be “punctuated by lots of action.” Smulders’ only other appearance on the show was during the pilot episode.
SPOILERS for Captain America: The Winter Soldier ahead
Hill was recently seen Captain America: The Winter Soldier helping Captain America, Black Widow and The Falcon take down the HYDRA-controlled Helicarriers. With S.H.I.E.L.D. dismantled at the end of the film, she was last seen applying for a job at Stark Industries. Whether Hill got the job remains to be seen, but if she did, my theory is that she’s using the resources of Stark Industries to help Fury, Coulson and the other good S.H.I.E.L.D. agents hunt down remaining HYDRA cells.
With How I Met Your Mother completed, my hope is that Hill will appear more frequently. Despite appearing in two big Marvel movies, she really hasn’t gotten much screen time since…y’know, people care more about the actual superheroes. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. would be the perfect venue to flesh out her character. At the very least make her recurring next season. Two episodes in a season just doesn’t cut it.
