Jack Kirby is Getting His Own Beer! Proceeds Go To Charity.

This August 28th, Jack Kirby would have turned 97 years old.  To celebrate, my favorite charity, The Hero Initiative, has teamed with kosher beer makers Shmaltz Brewery to bring you a special edition “King Kirby Ale.”   How cool is that?

For those who somehow don’t know, Jack Kirby is one of the main reasons you had joy in your childhood.  He co-created much of King Kirby Alethe Marvel Universe, including Captain America, The X-Men, Black Panther, The Avengers, The Hulk, The Fantastic Four and sooooo many more.  Then, the dude went to DC and created Darkseid, The New G-Ds and a buncha others.  He also did so much more, but if you don’t know about it I seriously recommend you start researching immediately.  Essentially, without Kirby your life would suck.

So on his B-day, there is gonna be a big party in Clifton Park, NY (which is in Upstate NY and happens to be mad close where I live- Albany) at the Shmaltz Brewery headquarters from 4-8 pm.  It costs 20 bucks to get in.  There will be birthday cake, beer samples, prizes and special guests from the community, including Witchblade  writer Ron Marz, action figure sculptor Paul Harding and artist Tom Raney.  All proceeds from tickets sales go to to The Hero Initiative.  Limited edition cases of the brew will be on sale during the event with a portion of those sales going to the charity also.

Very cool.  As I said above, I love The Hero Initiative.  They are pretty much the greatest charity ever because they help out the creators who made the mythology we love.  The comic industry can be cutthroat (no one that better than Kirby), and “work for hire” has left many creators with no benefits, no retirements policy and no support if they fall on hard times.  The Hero Initiative is there for them when they are in need.

Did I mention how awesomely Jewy Shmaltz beer is?  (The answer is no; I did not.)  They manufacture He-Brew– “The Chosen Beer.”  Yes, I love that!  L’Chaim!  The Kirby beer will be  available in pale and dark ales.

If you wanna attend the party, click this link to get your tickets.  I personally don’t drink, so I won’t be indulging in any King Kirby Ale, but it looks like it is going to be a good time for a great cause.  Even if you aren’t able to make it be sure to check out The Hero Initiative’s site by clicking here.
