IRON MAN 3 On Track To Break Marvel Record

Looks like Kevin Feige’s plan to bring THE AVENGERS to the big screens is paying dividends for Marvel’s solo movies as IRON MAN 3 is projected to break $160 million in its opening weekend, the highest of any of the non-team-up outings. That’s higher than any of Nolan’s Batman flicks, whose box office records were untouchable in the pre-Avengers world, but still a bit shy of the $169 million opening of that cheesy hipster glasses bound magician, Harry Potter.

We’ve just seen the film last weekend (we’ll deliver our official review tomorrow), and despite some lulls in the narrative, it deserves every buck it earns. I can’t help but wonder if it’ll cast a shadow on the entire summer movie season, stealing the shine from WB’s own universe-spawning flick MAN OF STEEL (which looks butt-shattering levels of amazing). Iron Man 3‘s high Rotten Tomatoes score alone will be difficult to defeat.

Marvel Studios’ Iron Man 3 pits brash-but-brilliant industrialist Tony Stark/Iron Man against an enemy whose reach knows no bounds. When Stark finds his personal world destroyed at his enemy’s hands, he embarks on a harrowing quest to find those responsible. This journey, at every turn, will test his mettle. With his back against the wall, Stark is left to survive by his own devices, relying on his ingenuity and instincts to protect those closest to him. As he fights his way back, Stark discovers the answer to the question that has secretly haunted him: does the man make the suit or does the suit make the man?
