HUNGER GAMES Star Joins DAREDEVIL As Foggy Nelson, Best Friend Extraordinaire

We have the hero, we have the villain and now we have the best friend. Originally reported by The Wrap, Marvel has officially announced that Elden Henson (The Mighty Ducks, Jobs) has been cast in Marvel’s upcoming Netflix series Daredevil as Foggy Nelson, one of the most important characters in Daredevil history.

Marvel describes Nelson as “Matt Murdock’s best friend and legal partner. In a town full of crime and corruption, Foggy’s friendship to the community and passion for improving it have made him a friend to its many residents from all walks of life.” Henson, who will be seen later this year in The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part I, joins Charlie Cox, Vincent D’Onofrio and Rosario Dawson. Nelson was previously played by Jon Favreau in 2003’s Daredevil, although he wasn’t given much to do (the Director’s Cut fixed this).

Foggy-Nelson

This is the one I’ve been waiting for. You can’t have a Daredevil series without Foggy Nelson. You just can’t. Not only has he been a part of the Daredevil comics since their inception, but he’s one of the most important people in Matt Murdock’s life. These two have been tight since college, and though they’ve had their ups and downs during the years, they remain best friends to this day. Frankly, it would have been a serious mistake not including him in the show. I might have gone down to New York and protested outside Marvel headquarters with a sign. Okay, I wouldn’t have done that, but I would have wrote a strongly worded complaint on the Marvel Facebook page.

As for Henson, I haven’t seen The Mighty Ducks in years, and I haven’t seen any of his other work, but I have faith he’ll pull it off. The one thing I ask is that Henson put on weight. Judging from pictures of him I’m looking at, it looks like he’s done this before, but it’s especially crucial he’s heftier when playing Nelson. Matt Murdock is the well-toned blind lawyer who secretly fights crime, and Nelson is the out-of-shape friend who’s still a damn good lawyer. That’s the dichotomy that needs to exist.

Honestly, I’m content now. Daredevil, Kingpin and Foggy Nelson have been announced, along with Rosario Dawson’s mystery character. Sure, I’ll be interested if they cast Bullseye, Jack Murdock or another character from the Daredevil family, but we have all the main players now, so now I’m fully on board with this show.

Unless they cast Stilt-Man. Then I’ll jump in the air with joy, though I’ll probably be the only one.
