HEROES Returns To TV In 2015

The Internet chocked on its cereal today when NBC released a teaser trailer during the airing of the Winter Olympics teasing the return of HEROES as a 13 episode mini-series in 2015.

The mini-series, titled HEROES: REBORN will feature a stand-alone story arc, though no other story details have been revealed at this time.

What we do know is that HEROES creator, Tim Kring will return as executive producer, in addition to a digital series debuting prior to the show in order to introduce the main characters of HEROES: REBORN.

Also, at this point in time, evidence suggests that the show will focus on a new cast of characters although that doesn’t necessarily rule out the appearances of characters from the previous iteration of the show. When asked about the show NBC Entertainment President Jennifer Salke said, “Until we get closer to air in 2015, the show will be appropriately shrouded in secrecy, but we won’t rule out the possibility of some of the show’s original cast members popping back in.”

The original series ran for four seasons from 2006-2010 until it was cancelled in February of 2010 due to the show losing steam after the 2007-2008 WGA writers’ strike.

The question is though, how did this reveal affect viewers and fans of the show; to find out UnleashTheFanboy sent a team of its most experienced reporters to get some statements from fans.

Chuck Peterson, a young unemployed college graduate working at a federal post office said, “I was in my senior year of high school when Heroes first came on television – that show was awesome! Sylar and that cheerleader chick are going to be epic.” But when we informed him that the new series will focus on new original characters, he shook his head and told us to vacate the alley in which we conducted the interview in.

Two other former fans of the show, Darla and Karen Johns, living in a two-bedroom apartment filled with Heroes merchandise, said “This is going to be a George Lucas prequels thing all over again, we’re not buying it. We can’t live through Jar Jar Binks again.” We tried to tell them that the prequels weren’t that bad and that they haven’t seen any footage or story details yet, but all they said was “Get out, Jar Jar lovers!” after which they threw a hardcover Heroes art book at us.

“The enormous impact “HEROES” had on the television landscape when it first launched in 2006 was eye-opening. Shows with that kind of resonance don’t come around often and we thought it was time for another installment. We’re thrilled that visionary creator Tim Kring was as excited about jumping back into this show as we were and we look forward to all the new textures and layers Tim plans to add to his original concept.”

So what do you think? Are you excited to see more from the world of Heroes or do you want a continuation of the original cast’s story?
