THE FLASH Gets ‘Friend Zoned’ in CW’s Latest Promo

I’m sure we’ve all heard the saying ‘Nice guys finish last’. Well when you’re the Flash, you’re usually never last for anything. But it seems even the even he can’t outrun the dreaded ‘friend zone’. In the latest promo for the upcoming series, viewers are introduced to Iris West, played by Candice Patton, and get a glimpse at the unique relationship she shares with Barry Allen, played by Grant Gustin. In this interpretation of The Flash, Barry lived with Detective Joe West, Iris’ father, and his family after a ball of lightning (aka Professor Zoom) killed his mother and his father was blamed for it. Because of that, Iris doesn’t see Barry as nothing more than her ‘brother but not actually brother’. Patton had this to say on the subject:

OK Magazine's So Sexy L.A. Event - Arrivals

“It’s tough to get friend-zoned [but] they’ve just been friends for so long, I think Iris may be a little aloof to the idea that Barry has had these feelings for so long.”

Looks like it’s going to be one of those ‘will they, won’t they’ moments floating throughout the show. Anyone who has read The Flash before knows that Barry and Iris eventually get together, but no one’s sure how this will play out on TV. Maybe after going a few rounds with some supervillains, Barry will get enough confidence to make a move. If that doesn’t work, there’s always a pretty (not natural) blonde in Starling City who is into him. Maybe Barry should start taking a few runs out there…

Also in the mix is a promo focusing on Barry’s newly acquired super-speed, which is being tested by Dr. Harrison Wells, played by Tom Cavanagh. Dr. Wells is the scientist whose invention is responsible for the lightning storm that zapped Barry and rendered him comatose for nine months. But since it gave him abs and super-speed, I’m sure he’ll let it slide.
