We’ve got several weeks before The Day of the Doctor airs, and BBC has really stepped up the promotions for the Doctor Who 50th anniversary special. We learned earlier on Wednesday that a new trailer for the special would be aired on Saturday, and now the BBC has released four new pictures to get us hyped up even more. Okay, the pictures actually don’t reveal much, but if you’re a Whovian like me, you take whatever you can get. Take a look below:
The first two show the Eleventh Doctor, and while the second one has him just looking pissed off, the first one has him standing near a girl wearing a scarf that looks an awful lot like the one the Fourth Doctor used to wear. After doing some quick research, I learned that one of the actresses, Ingrid Oliver, is playing a character named Osgood who was photographed earlier this year on the set wearing that same scarf. Whether she has a relation to the Fourth Doctor or any of the Doctors remains to be seen.
The last two pictures focus on good ol’ number Ten. One has him standing by some knights and the other has him talking to Queen Elizabeth I, played by Joanna Page. It’s fair to say that those scenes will be taking place in the 16th century setting that we heard about from the plot synopsis released earlier this week. I hope that the special touches upon the Tenth Doctor and Queen Elizabeth’s “special” relationship. The last time we saw those two together, she order her guards to kill him, and we later learned that Ten had married her at a later point in his life, but an earlier point in hers.
While I would have liked to seen some more of John Hurt and the companions, these pictures should tide me over until this weekend’s trailer. All the pictures have Ten and Eleven looking serious and determined, so ideally this means there will be a good mix of action and humor.
