Cynthia Addai-Robinson Will Be Amanda Waller in Arrow TV Series

Good news for all the Arrow-heads out there (not sure if that’s what they’re called but I like it)! The new season of CW’s Arrow television series begins on October 9th. In addition to other comic book characters like Black Canary, Bronze Tiger, Brother Blood, and The Flash appearing, TV Guide has announced that Cynthia Addai-Robinson, who played Naevia in Spartacus: War of the Damned, will be playing Amanda Waller, an agent of the organization known as A.R.G.U.S., aka Advanced Research Group United Support. Robinson isn’t the first to portray Waller in live action (Pam Grier and Angela Bassett have done it also) but choosing her means that the show’s producers have decided to model Waller after her slimmer, slightly younger New 52 counterpart.

Robinson in Spartacus

For those unfamiliar with Waller, she is a top-ranking U.S. Government agent involved in many secret operations. She is a highly skilled field agent and is one of the most ruthless women in espionage and politics (she’s basically DC Comics’ Nick Fury but with Maria Hill’s hairstyle). Not only has she worked for everyone including the President (who was Lex Luthor at the time), she runs the Suicide Squad, a team of super-villains who do dirty missions for the government in exchange for reduced prison sentences. They are usually based in a supervillain prison, where she happens to be the Warden. She’s gained a lot of exposure over the past few years, appearing in Justice League Unlimited, Young Justice, Smallville, and Green Lantern. If it involves superheroes and the government, you can bet she’s involved somehow.

New 52 Version

With her, Bronze Tiger, and Deadshot making appearances in Arrow, it seems very likely her infamous squad will form at some point, though there hasn’t been any official word yet. Personally I think Robinson is up to the task. She’s already proven herself capable of portraying a tough woman with a thing for battle and I’ve seen her with short hair. All she needs now is a pants suit, some guns, and a couple of supervillains and Amanda ‘The Wall’ Waller will be born.

Do you think Robinson has what it takes to portray Amanda Waller? Will the Suicide Squad be coming after Oliver Queen? Leave a comment and let us know!
