Will CAPTAIN AMERICA 3 Finish Off Beloved Patriot Steve Rogers?

In a recent interview with MTV, Anthony Russo (Co-director of The Winter Soldier and the upcoming third Cap film) said that “for satisfying storytelling, you want a beginning, middle and end, that’s the natural arc that we all thrive off of in narrative.” This certainly implies that they will be heading for a definitive end  for Steve Rogers.

Russo also said,  “The great thing about the Marvel universe, just like the publishing, it’s a very vast, inter-connected universe, where characters will have their rise and fall, so to speak, and hand off to other characters, as the cinematic universe moves forward, you may start to see the cinematic universe adopt that same pattern, as the publishing has, where there’s closure with some characters and new beginnings with other characters. How those hand-offs are made is always part of the fun.”

This sounds like they’re going to replace our favourite patriot, which I’m sure Chris Evans would be fine with, as he has said that he would like to start directing more and acting less, I believe his contract runs out after Avengers 3, and if Thanos is going to be the villain of that film, he needs to kill some major characters, so that seems like the perfect time to kill him off. There are a few possible replacements for Steve Rogers that would make sense in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The first is Bucky (AKA The Winter Soldier), who has appeared in both Captain America films (played by Sebastian Stan), in the comics, after Steve died at the end of the Civil War crossover event, Bucky took on the Cap mantle for a couple of years. This is probably the one fans want the most and is also the most obvious. The next option is Falcon (Anthony Mackie), who, in the comics, is about to pick up the shield in All-New Captain America by Rick Remender & Stuart Immonen, so it would be good for brand synergy and Mackie was awesome in Cap 2. The third is one that I’ve never heard anyone say but I think it could be cool, in Iron Man 3, Iron Patriot looked a lot like a robot Captain America, so why not just make him Captain America. Honestly I’d be down for any of these choices, or they could do all of them — have them tag team against whoever the bad guy is — MODOK or something
