ADVANCE REVIEW! Thaniel #3

How will Thaniel react to Death’s presence? Read on to find out

The official description from OSSM Comics:

Left for dead, Thaniel begins to see the potential limitlessness to his new powers. Using his godly gifts to stop his best friend, Thaniel causes the real mastermind to emerge from the shadows. Death, the Grim Reaper himself, has a plan, and Thaniel may be forced to execute it.

Thaniel #3Following last issues suspenseful and shocking climax I for one have been dying to see what happens next. Naturally our hero survives (he had to), with the events that follow being very quick paced. Despite this it did have plenty of energy in it and ultimately led nicely into this issues main development point.

Omar Spahi does a wonderful job of taking our main character Thaniel and screwing with his mind. He does this by allowing the anti-hero to meet his father, Death. The encounter between the two is far from pleasant with the dastardly Death having cunning intentions in mind. It is however the intensity and the overall tone that Spahi adds to this sequence that makes it so great as along with the terrific cliffhanger it sets up the series finale brilliantly.

Terry Huddleston once again does a fabulous job with the artwork for this series with his monotone visuals blowing me away. One thing that I’m extremely happy about his art on this issue is that it’s returned to only black, white and red colouring as the light blue from the last issue didn’t work. Besides this the overall detail and grittiness of Huddleston’s art along with the intense layouts and emotional facial features make this a issue that’s visually stunning.

Thaniel continues to amaze as it’s penultimate issue set’s up some interesting and shocking plot developments leading up to the series finale. Highly recommended.
