ADVANCE REVIEW! Spooked: “Paranormal Professionals”

When it arrives on June 4th should this internet show find an audience? Read on to find out.

The official description:

The pilot finds the ghost hunters Team investigating an inexorable poltergeist determined to ruin his daughter’s marriage to her wife.

Spooked Ep1 Pilot Still 1As a fanboy that’s grown up around his share of shenanigans and supernatural programs, it was nice to walk away from this pilot with a smile and genuine interest. The cast and crew have successfully started their own title with enough positives to outweigh almost any potential negatives. In short: this is the way to begin your brand new franchise, especially when it employs solid references known to the niche culture it’s trying to connect with.

We’re given a love triangle of sorts (that’s going to end badly) along with a bond between a brother and his sister that amplifies these zany proceedings. Julian Curtis as Connor is easily the heart of the piece while his ‘Spooked‘ sibling Piper (Shyloh Oostwald) gives him weight and ground to stand on. Neil Grayston (Lindsey) and Derek Mio (Elliot) act well in their respective roles but it’s Ashley Johnson that turns her character, Morgan, into a lovable but incompetent expert. To put it simply: the cast sold it.

SPOOKED Ep1 Still BConcrete cinematography suites the script by creator Michael Gene Conti and Felicia Day. What we’re given is an introductory romp in which the Paranormal Investigation Team aka P.I.T. does there thing as they attempt to help a couple concerned clients. Each player has their own journey in this straight forward beginning and director Richard Martin proves to be mindful of that. Through his cadence and the labor of the crew behind him we’re given a simple but genuine experience with little complaints except for one. Some of the jokes just didn’t land for me, but these minor hiccups honestly never left me down for long.

Spooked: “Paranormal Professionals” is an engaging start for something original and yet familiar. If you love supernatural and humor, think toned down Ghostbusters, than checking this one out via Hulu and Youtube is a must as it comes recommended.
