ADVANCE REVIEW: Shotgun Wedding #3

Will Chloe succeed in her plot to ruin Mike’s wedding and life? Read on to find out.

The official description from Top Cow:

Mike Stone wants nothing more than to marry the woman of his dreams. Denise is smart, sexy, teaches the second grade, and loves Mike more than anything in the world. What she doesn’t know is that Mike is one of the world’s top assassins and was once engaged to a fellow assassin named Chloe. And when Mike abandoned Chloe on their wedding day, she vowed revenge…

SGW003-preview4-f6ef4Shotgun Wedding reaches it’s penultimate issue and I can easily say that it will be a sad moment when this series ends. It may only be a four part mini that ships weekly (hence it’ll only take up a month of our time) but over the three issues so far I have grown extremely fond of this series that knows exactly where to draw the line.

William Harms executes a perfect script here as given all the tension and build-up we’ve seen over the last two issues it’s nice to finally get some proper action from Chloe. The way that Harms has developed this series has also been pure genius as he’s given us tension and suspense whilst also not allowing that aspect to be strung too far out. In this issue he particularly focuses on Mike and Denise background with Chloe’s vengeance coming in very quickly. On top of all this he also sets up the conclusion perfectly as though it’s not the most gripping of cliffhangers it keeps you hooked.

Edward Pun has astonished me with his wonderful art over this mini with his black and white monotone look being perfect for this story. What I’ve loved the most about his art over the series has to be the way he lays out his work as he always gives a dynamic feel to any scenario whether it be action based, emotional or dramatic which shows real talent. He also gives us a lot of excitement as well as the story’s development allows Pun to create adrenaline fuelled pages that give a very gripping vibe.

Shotgun Wedding is almost over but it still manages to produce the goods and I can easily see this becoming one of the best mini-series of the year. Highly recommended.
