ADVANCE REVIEW! Nailbiter #3

Has Nailbiter went back to his murderous ways or is he being set-up? Read on to find out.

The official description from Image:

As the morgue continues to fill with new dead bodies, the citizens of Buckaroo violently demand that Sheriff Crane and Officer Finch arrest the Nailbiter. But in a town full of killers… anyone could be a suspect.

Nailbiter03_Page2Nailbiter continues to astound me with it’s gripping narrative and suspenseful tempo being breathtaking. The story follows in a dramatic fashion from last issue murder with the presence of a lynch mob outside Nailbiters house being very fitting. The events that followed along with a spooky morgue sequence made this one of the most intense comics I’ve read in a while with the series as a whole being truly phenomenal.

Joshua Williamson has proven to be a master of suspense and drama throughout the series first three issues. It is however his flair for horror that impressed me the most about this issue with a sequence set in a mortuary having the kind of suspenseful flair that made horror films like Halloween and Friday the 13th so compelling. In addition to this the overall flow of the issue proved to be smooth through out with the mystique of this killer being very enthralling.

Mike Henderson‘s art over this series has been very impressive with his striking illustrations being outstanding to say the least. Mirroring Williamson’s script in every way Henderson does a terrific job of setting a dramatic tone to this story with his layouts adding an intense vibe to certain sequences. Henderson’s execution of suspense also proves as tantalising as the script counterpart with his layouts during the morgue sequence adding a spooky and shocking atmosphere. The soft yet impactful colours of Adam Guzowski are also sensational with the overtone and texture it adds fitting nicely alongside Henderson’s art.

Nailbiter is quickly becoming my favourite Image series out the now with it’s thrilling plot and horror theme being very compelling. Highly recommended.
