5 Reasons Why JEFF GOLDBLUM Is The Perfect DOCTOR STRANGE

After a few rounds of pizza lunch fueled debates (pepperoni pepperjack, thank you very much), we few staffers at the Vega Baja HQ of Unleash The Fanboy have decided upon our ideal candidate or the role of Marvel’s Master of Mysticism aka Doctor Strange. And while a few of you may disagree with us, we’re absolutely convinced that Jeff Goldblum (yes, THAT Jeff Goldblum) is perfect for the role of Sorcerer Supreme.

Here’s why…

They’re Both Old and Wizardy

Jeff Goldblum is old. Like really, REALLY old. At the ripe age of 60, he’s not exactly the archetype of “young, muscular, superhero”, but that’s exactly why he’d be perfect as Doctor Strange. Strange is, after all, a Sorcerer Supreme, a wizard by all accounts, and if there’s one thing that all the greatest magic wielders have in common, it’s age! Would you really want to see a 25 year old Gandalf throwing down with the Balrog? Or a 30 year old Dumbledore going toe to toe with Voldermort? FAWK NO! You want some of that awesome, old man action.

Jeff Goldblum is Robert Downey Jr.’s Match in Sass

As much as I love Robert Downey Jr. (and I really, truly do… in a hetero way), he ain’t got shit on Jeff Goldblum. The latter was the king of snark and sass in the 90’s, playing with the perfect mixture of intellect and snap in movies like Independece Day and Jurassic Park. Even in a few of his more recent flicks, in which he serves as nothing more than a side character (I’ll cite the chick flick Switch as an example… don’t judge me, it’s actually pretty funny) Goldblum was a witty asshole. A perfect, cynical foil for Tony Stark.

He Can Replace RDJ As The Oldest Dude on The Avengers

Even though Captain America is ‘technically’ the oldest Avenger (clocking in at around 100 years old), Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark will forever be seen as the elder member of the squad. Nearly 50, and still rocking the goatee like a champ, RDJ is our “Old Man” anchor that keeps the young bloods in line. And with Robert Downey Jr. only signed on fro 2 more flicks, Jeff Goldblum is the perfect candidate to inherit that venerable seat. Like we’ve said earlier, he’d easily be the oldest thespian at 60 years old, and he’d be a convincing superhero, thanks to a healthy diet of gin cocktails and tapas.

Although, now that I think about it, Thor is kinda 1,000 years old in the movies… but he still acts like a young blood!

Jeff Goldblum is Really Fawking Cool

He really is!  Goldblum always portrays the cool, calm, and collected smarty pants who saves the day, standing in the corner of the room, casting dispersions at the intellectually inferior cast of misfits assembled before him.  Remember Jurassic Park?  His role as Dr. Ian Malcolm was equal parts PUA master and autistic mime.  And how about his portrayal of Allistair Hennessey in The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou?  David Levinson in Independence Day?
