If you are like me, any news concerning X-Men: Days of Future Past is welcome and endlessly debated; after all we have to wait until May of 2014 to see the feature. So when some news surfaced in the form of Peter Dinklage speaking up I was all ears. If you have been locked up for the past few months or in a coma, Peter Dinklage is playing Bolivar Trask; the creator of the feared Sentinels. So Tyrion Lannister himself is tackling one of the greatest X-Men foes of all time; what’s not to like? Peter had this to say about his take on Trask to EW,
I didn’t want to play the villain,” Dinklage told EW. “He’s a man of science. He’s a man of invention. He actually sees what he’s doing as a good thing — [his ambition is] definitely blind and he’s quite arrogant. He’s strove all his life for a certain respect and attention.”
I like how Dinklage is approaching this; it has a certain ‘real’ angle. Rarely in real life are things black and white, or good and evil. Life is a bunch of grey, just people making choices that are not inherently right or wrong. In general, this particular phenomenon is what makes the Marvel movies surge so awesome. Marvel is making super hero movies that feel like real life; you don’t always know if the ‘good’ guy will win – or at what cost…but I digress.
Peter went on to throw a tiny spoiler at us,
He’s up against Richard Nixon. He’s got some hurdles.”
So we get a little Nixon in the new X-Men? Sounds fun, Tricky Dick appearances are nerd cool; the ties-in to history add a little cred to the story. Its not much fanboys, but Dinklage channeling the 70’s and a showdown with “I am not a crook” and Sentinels; oh my. The anticipation keeps building. Stay tuned…and enjoy the links below.
