Will The Original Unaltered STAR WARS Trilogy Be Coming To Blu-Ray?

Comicbook.com is reporting that fans can expect to get their hands on Blu-ray copies of The Original Unaltered STAR WARS Trilogy around the time Episode VII will be released.  This has been a project in the works for some time, and Comicbook.com is reporting issues with the original negatives have been pushing back the release date.  I don’t buy this at all, the original trilogy was remastered and re-released in there original form in the early 90’s.  Hell I still have these copies.  Lucas Film can all me if they need to.

The Original Unaltered STAR WARS Trilogy has never been released on Blu-ray, but was released on DVD as single edition DVD’s roughly nine years ago.  The picture and sound quality of these DVD’s is pretty dreadful and was not remastered in any way.  The feedback resembled that of a well worn VHS cassette.

The Special Edition Versions of Star Wars originally crawled from the Sarlacc pit in 1997 and have been the dominant versions available since then.  While obsessives such as myself have always been sure to own original cuts, due to the poor picture quality I have to admit once I bought a large screen HD TV stopped watching the originals because the poor image quality became more distracting than the changes.

I was always curious why Lucas Film never just released both versions, similar to the Alien Quadrilogy sets that have been released.  These sets provide both the original and an alternative cut of the film, both fully remastered.  While I am familiar with all the rumors of why, none seemed totally plausible to me.  I fully expect the Original Unaltered STAR WARS Trilogy to be available, simply because there is money to be made off of this.
